ONF and BII Jointly Establish the Open SDN Promotion Center

BEIJING, China, December 22, 2014 - Recently, the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a user-driven non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and adoption of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), has announced the establishment  of the Open SDN Promotion Center (OSPC) in China jointly with Beijing Internet Institute (BII). The Open SDN Promotion Center will be dedicated to creating an open SDN ecosystem, fostering the development of open source projects, facilitating wider deployment of the OpenFlow® protocol, and promoting ONF in the Chinese region.

Launched in 2011 by Deutsche Telekom, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Verizon, and Yahoo!, ONF is a growing nonprofit organization with more than 140 members whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of open SDN. ONF promotes open SDN and OpenFlow® technologies and standards while fostering a vibrant market of products, services, applications, customers, and users.

Mr. Dan Pitt, ONF executive director, has paid special attention to the China Market, “This year I have been to China four times and am excited by the continuous innovations in the region. ONF has 15 member companies coming from china who are all contributing to SDN, creating a new ecosystem together. I am very pleased to make the announcement that we are establishing the OSPC jointly with BII. We share the same belief and the same vision, and ONF is committed to providing more resources in China to achieve our vision. We will continue to visit China to carry on this great endeavor with BII, and even when we are not there the OSPC will keep the SDN promotion and advancement continuous.” Dan said on December 8 at the Global SDN Open Networking Conference in Nanjing, China.

As a pioneer in promoting SDN technologies, BII has been active in creating SDN standards, designing for users in fields of SDN network and SDN application, and has been dedicated to promoting ONF and the OpenFlow® protocol in China. The Global SDN Certified Testing Center, which is affiliated with BII, has an independent SDN testing environment, providing services, consulting, testing, certification, and training. Liu Dong, director of the Beijing Internet Institute said that open SDN is a great trend, and he was pleased to see more and more people joining in, and that the OSPC would function as a bridge, connecting China with the world.

The collaboration between ONF and BII is also one of the important measures that ONF has taken as part of its global strategy. Both parties will jointly carry out cooperation on technologies research and, Chinese SDN ecosystem formation, thus creating a harmonious environment for SDN development in the Chinese region, promoting the development of the whole industry.
