Partnership agreement promotes SDN application and deployment in China, keeping organizations informed of latest developments in SDN and the OpenFlow® Protocol
BEIJING and PALO ALTO, Calif., August 30, 2013 – The Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and China SDN & Open Networking Commission (CSONC), a networking commission in China dedicated to the development of SDN technologies, today announced a strategic partnership agreement to increase deployment and commercialization of SDN and the OpenFlow® protocol. Together ONF and CSONC will offer members additional resources to keep informed of the latest developments in SDN through conferences, technical investigation, and educational training.
“CSONC is focused on helping the Chinese markets transition to SDN, as this innovative technology offers greater management capabilities, cost reduction opportunities, and flexibility of the network,” said Dr. Jun Bi, executive vice chairman commissioner of China SDN & Open Networking Commission. “Our relationship with ONF will enable local and future member companies more opportunities to stay informed of innovative use cases, new versions of the OpenFlow® protocol, and local workshops designed to help network operators deploy the technology.”
“The mutual cooperation with ONF strengthens the construction of the Commission,” said Xudong Zhang, secretary-general of China SDN & Open Networking Commission. “We encourage scientific organizations and companies to join the Commission and participate in global communication and cooperation, and promote the exchange and development of the global SDN industry.”
CSONC is focused on promoting innovative SDN information and technology within the Chinese information and communications technology (ICT) industry. The Commission integrates theory with their practice and discusses the development and evolution of relevant technological standards. Currently, the organization is supported by nearly 30 member companies including scientific and technological institutions, operators, device suppliers, and large Internet companies.
As part of the relationship, CSONC and ONF will promote SDN and OpenFlow® applications to end users in China, as well as SDN and OpenFlow® technical research and development in China.

ONF is the steward of the OpenFlow® protocol, which provides the fundamental standard foundation for SDN.
