The Migration project (formerly Migration Working Group) was formed in April of 2013 with the objective to help accelerate the adoption of open software-defined networking (SDN). The project has focused on producing methods and recommendations for migrating network services from a traditional network, such as a data center network or wide-area network, to an OpenFlow-based software defined network, and has published 2 publicly-available documents, namely: “Migration Use Cases and Methods” and “Migration Tools and Metrics”. As part of its next milestones, the Migration project is currently working on implementing a prototype and a demo of a real-world SDN migration use case, validating some of the methods, tools and metrics investigated and recommended in previous deliverables. Operators and users of network (carrier, data center, enterprise) in particular are invited to join this project to share their real-world knowledge and experience in software-defined network migrations.
